Duplicates and similar cards

Flexi checks for possible duplicates when you create cards. A duplicate warning does not stop you from adding a card. Open the matches and decide whether you already have the meaning you want to study.

For a card you have already saved, use Find similar to look for matching or similar cards in your decks.

Check a duplicate warning before adding a card

The check searches your decks in the same learning language, including other decks. It compares the word and its meaning rather than requiring identical text. Spelling variants or different forms of the same word can match; a synonym or a different meaning is not automatically a duplicate. Flexi uses the translation and, when available, the definition and example to check the meaning.

  1. Create your card suggestions and wait for the duplicate check.

  2. If a suggestion shows Duplicate, tap it to open the matching cards.

  3. Compare the word, translation, and meaning with the card you want to add.

  4. Return to the suggestions. Add the card if you want to keep it, or leave it unselected if you already have the same meaning.

You choose what to save. Flexi does not automatically delete an existing card because of a duplicate warning.

When choosing cards from a generated topic list, Deselect duplicates clears the duplicate suggestions from your selection. Select only duplicates selects those suggestions so you can focus on reviewing them. Neither action deletes cards you already saved.

Understand the check status

  • Checking duplicates means the check is still running.

  • Duplicate means Flexi found a possible match you can inspect.

  • No duplicates means the check found no match. It is not a guarantee that no similar card exists.

  • Check failed means the check did not finish. Retry it before relying on the result.

Find similar cards you already saved

  1. Open a saved card.

  2. Open its menu and tap Find similar.

  3. In Similar cards, review the results and compare their meanings.

The search looks across your decks with the same learning language, not just the current deck. It finds cards with similar word-and-translation meanings, so the results can include related cards that are not duplicates.

Unlike the duplicate check for suggested cards, Find similar does not make an additional check that the results represent the same word and meaning. Compare their translations and examples before deciding whether to keep them.
